
Currently, new technologies are completely integrated in our society. ICT is a resource which makes easier our life as well as our job therefore knowing and using it properly will make the difference. We live in a super-connected society whose citizens need is to communicate and to transmit information in real time so electronic devices, computers and smartphones are part of our daily life.
In the education field, new ways of learning involving new technologies have appeared. Current students are digital natives who feel comfortable with the digital transference of information. On account of this situation, the contents of the curriculum have been adapted to the technological revolution and the digital competence has been included, being teachers and students both involved in developing.
As it is set in Bloque 5 of the
Curriculum of Educación Secundaria Obligatoria, students must be able to look for new information, visit blogs, listening pages, especialised websites or online dictionaries. They must be able to select the most adequate information and organise it individually or in groups, as well as to use fluently resources such as email, audiovisual tools or social media. In this way, the students will develop digital skills and abilities which will help them to carry out a permanent learning throughout the whole life as well as to be completely independent in a technological society.
In terms of teaching, ICT is a fantastic resource. There are endless possibilities and really useful materials to work on developing communicative competence. It is an amazing way for involving students in the learning process and increasing their attention and motivation in the subject.
To sum up, students must be helped to develop digital competence in an ethical way as they will be able to search, select and process information as well as to create and organise essays, texts or projects. To achieve this task, teachers involvement is required.
